Depict 90 second video evaluation: The Invitation

Depict 90 second video evaluation: The Invitation
To complete assignment one; myself and my group had to create a 90 second film of our choice. Among us, we decided to call it ‘The Invitation,’ a short film with no dialogue.

What I think went well was the editing and the final outcome of our film. We filmed well and got it all done quick, and the editing we done was quick too. I think we all acted well, better than I expected. The split screen in our film I’m pleased with because I think it makes the whole film, instead of the film being normal screen we added that extra good bit by putting some of it into split screen.

What I think didn’t go well was the story, because at the end of editing we didn’t have any sort of idea what our film was really about because it was really improvised and we didn’t really think about what we wanted to do. We had to do about five minutes of more filming to make it have some sort of final conclusion so the people who see it had a little bit of an idea what was going on and what had happened. Also when we were filming some of us didn’t wear the same clothes, so it looked a bit weird; this is a continuity error which we are not going to make again while filming. For example, when we shot our last clip, I wasn’t wearing the correct jumper and I didn’t have my wig on, so it looked weird.

What I think could have gone better would have to be the story, because we didn’t really have a clue what we were filming about; we just made it up as we went along and it didn’t turn out too good. The end result is still pretty poor, but it’s better than what we did have before.

Why I like 'The Perfect Houseguest'

I like 'The Perfect Houseguest' because it's a very cute animation, and it's different because not many people would see mice as clean animals and this video has changed that and made the mouse into a maid almost, cleaning up after the person who lives there, straightening out their pictures etc. I think the target audience for this would probably be young children, mainly because it's quite a sweet video and teenagers might get bored of it (even though it's a short film).
The shots are establishing shots because you see most of the background and the mouse at the same time.

Why I like 'Don't Feed The Ducks'

I like 'Don't Feed The Ducks' because it's funny, really funny. It's animated really well, and the person behind it must have a really good imagination to come up with something like that because it's brilliant. The animation is simple but it looks so good. It's almost like King Kong but so much better! I think the target audience would be teenagers, mostly because it is killing ducks and I don't think a young child would want to see that, because ducks are amazing to children...
The shot types are different, there's close ups and long shots, when the duck is on the building in a separate type of screen and through the binoculars I would say that's a long shot because you still see most of the building and the bullets hitting the duck.

Why I like 'Death In Space'

I liked watching Death In Space because I thought it was quite funny; even though they paced it quickly it still made sense and it was still good, and you also understood what was going on. The animation of the short film is very good too; I would say it's targeted at maybe teenagers, but also some of the older generation; just because I don't think a younger person would watch this as they might not find it very pleasant.
The shot types are establishing shots, meaning that you can see mostly everything in the shot, that's what I like about it too; because instead of it just being close ups all the time meaning that you can only see their face, you get an idea of what's around the animated people and how they're dying.
